Reopen
Dunguaire Castle

The Living Legacy of Dunguaire

A 16th-century fortress that stands as a silent witness to the cultural and historical heartbeat of Galway.

Dunguaire Castle had welcomed visitors for approximately five decades before its closure in 2023.

Now entering its fourth tourist season behind locked gates, campaigners warn that the building is beginning to suffer from a lack of routine maintenance.  Shannon Airport Group are the owner but wants to divest the castle to Galway County Council, how have declined as they have not been provided the necessary funds from Government.

This has led to a stalemate with the castle closed and falling into disrepair. Please join our campaign to put pressure on local government, national politicians and state bodies to act constructively and reopen Dunguaire Castle.
